Wijkermeerpolder optimal

Wijkermeerpolder

The Wijkermeerpolder is an example location for places that are under high pressure on the edge of the rapidly developing Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA). Design agencies MORE landscape and VE-R have carried out design research that can feed policymaking, in collaboration with the municipalities of Zaanstad and Beverwijk; within the ‘Future-proof rural area’ programme of the dutch Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie. Based on research into current trends, three scenarios have been drawn up for the Wijkermeerpolder in 2100, in search of the most optimal future. The scenarios are based on social trends that can already be recognised: Persevere, Combine and Rebound. With the development of the scenarios, each aspect (society, government attitude, etc.) has been reasoned out to see how that aspect will develop further within that scenario. The results of the design research have been translated into three map images, each with a regional and local zoom-in. The project was taken up in the publication ‘Transities!’.

In collaboration with VE-R. Supported by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie; in collaboration with Municipality of Zaanstad and Beverwijk. 2021-2022.
